DADA - 2017

“For us, art is not an end in itself,” wrote Dada poet Hugo Ball, “but it is an opportunity for the true perception and criticism of the times we live in.”

Inspired by the words of Dada poet Hugo Ball, we see art as a lens through which we perceive and critique our contemporary world. This mixed-media booklet delves into the history of the DADA art movement, born amidst the chaos of World War I. The unprecedented loss of life during this era, fueled by advancements in warfare technology, underscores the urgency of the Dadaists' message. For them, aesthetics took a backseat to the expression of ideas, challenging materialism and nationalism. Dada's influence spread across cities like Berlin, Hanover, Paris, New York, and Cologne, sparking creativity and dissent in turbulent times.
